Six Sentence Sunday: Before The Morning #9

Hey beautiful people!

It's an absolutely craptastic rainy/cold/grey Sunday here in Mauritius. Yep, it's winter, all right. But today also happens to be Mother's Day on the island, and the hyenas and their daddy have made the day much more bearable for me (*grin* Shoes... They make everything better. Drive by my FB profile and see what I mean!).

Anyhow, it's also the much-awaited day for Six Sentence Sunday. I'm gonna give you another glimpse into my super-spy's life and (twisted!) mind, then as from next week and the whole of June, I'll be hopping onto my 1NS release, Once Upon A Stormy Night, that releases this Tuesday, May 29 *super excited!*

But, yes, back to Rayne... and here, Kali, as she's on a mission (last week, she folded herself back into her undercover persona after nearly being exposed by our hero, Ash). What game is this girl playing? And how on earth does she ensure that her every mission ends on a 100% success rate (with a marginal body count as collateral damage)? Well, let's just say that Kali loves mind games, and she's a master manipulator, after all...

'...
Nikolai Grigorievskiy was sexually submissive—all it took was one dominant, commanding woman, and within three nights, she had him bowing to her every command, then pushing him to make her his wife barely a couple of weeks later.
Everything worked out to Kali's advantage—Nikolai adored her, but the fact that he acquiesced to anything she said was also a double-edged sword; his entourage might come to know she pulled the strings, and she couldn't have that.
She tuned in to the rumours and the gossip, found out no one expected their relationship to last beyond a few months, and Kali thought out a strategy, acted on that new plan: everybody would be suspicious of a controlling wife, but no one would look twice at, or even think about, a beaten, cheated-on wife.
That's how she subtly tipped the visible part of their relationship—little by little, she appeared with concealed bruises, and at her behest, Nikolai also started drinking more and spending time with other women—she convinced him he couldn't afford to show he was committed to her, or else no one would take him seriously. Soon, nobody paid any more attention to Irina—she conveniently melted into the background, where she could work her influence in covert ways. Exactly how she wanted it.
...'

She's playing a dangerous game, innit? Will she get caught? Grab your copy of Before The Morning (Corpus Brides: Book Two) and find out! *grin*

Don't forget to catch the rest of the SSS posse over at the official list - Jessica E. Subject, Siobhan Muir, Lorraine Paton, Wildcat's Wife, JM Blackman, Lisa Fox, Jess Schira, Mae Clair, Sue, Monca Enderle Pierce, Kate Warren, Cate Peace, Angela Quarles, Carly Fall, Christine Warner, and Jennifer Lowery... among many, many others!

Big huge thanks for coming over today and checking my six, and double thanks + XOXO if you leave me a comment!

From Mauritius with love,

Zee

A very dangerous game. You have a seriously kick-ass heroine here, but one who is calculating and intelligent as well. that makes a nice change.

I love how Rayne/Kali thinks! Such a fabulous six!

And Happy Mother's Day! :)

Zee Monodee said...

Lol. Thanks Jess! She's a complex one, indeed, the most 'twisted' character I've ever written! :)

Thanks Elin. I wanted to show she used her brains fully, and glad if that came across. Rayne/Kali knows every aspect of her plans and never takes a step without thinking it through - which I believe a good spy does. :)

Thanks Jessica! XOXO

I find her fascinating! So intrigued by her reasoning and her power over Nikolai. Here he was beating her at the beginning of all this, and now I almost feel sorry for him. (Okay maybe not, but...)

I hope you have a wonderful Mother's Day!

And, thank you for the mention! :)

Lol, exactly, Lorraine! You start to hate Nikolai, but then almost feel sorry for him, because Kali is totally playing him all the way :)

An abused wife? What an interesting twist. She's not even a real wife, and has driven her husband to drink. LOL. Great story, full of twist and turns!

Zee Monodee said...

Lol, Kate! I hope I made her convincing as a spy :)

Monica Enderle Pierce said...

This is one complex character. Equal parts devious genius and borderline sociopath. And 100% fascinating! (And Ash is a perfect foil!)

Zee Monodee said...

Thank you, Mae! I had a lot of fun coming up with her character... what does that say about my 'twisted' mind...? :)

Zee Monodee said...

Thanks Jennifer! xoxo

Thanks Siobhan! I cannot wait for the release! XOXO

Zee Monodee said...

Thanks, Donna, and welcome! I'm so glad you enjoyed your first visit. :)

I'm taking a hiatus from this story for a few weeks, but you can catch the previous snippets from this one (check the Archive), and you can also check out Chapter 1 (from which these excerpts are taken) in full on the Corpus Brides page above :)

Zee Monodee said...

Wildcat's Wife - exactly! Though Irina is actually married to Nikolai, we all know she's really a secret agent who's undercover. Goodness, the manipulations of that girl... :)
