It's an awful rainy, drafty, cold Sunday morning here in Mauritius. In the workds of Ned Stark, I too have to say that "winter is coming" (and FYI, Game of Thrones returns today! Yippee!)
That being said, I'm looking forward to SSS today, because this will be the first time I'll be sharing an excerpt from my upcoming May 7 release, and Book 2 of my Corpus Brides espionage series, with anyone else aside from my trusted CPs and my editor at Noble. Totally chuffed!
So what's Before The Morning about? You can take a peek at the Coming Soon page I just uploaded on the site, but in a nutshell, it's the prequel to my first release, Walking The Edge. The slant is more in-depth about the clandestine Corpus agency... and at the heart of this maelstrom of mutiny that is about to hit the ranks of this illustrious organization, stands a woman who has been a pillar of their operations, and who is about to slip... all in the name of love...
These are the opening lines from the book, and they introduce you to Ash Gilfoy, the hero, and a former cop turned ambulance worker. Yes, that's him in the picture. *grin* (Working this story was such a pain, I can assure you, to picture Josh Holloway as Ash... *wink*).
'...
London, Mayfair;
Thursday, July 12; 4.55 p.m.
To hell with common
sense and protocol—he'd be damned if he let a woman get assaulted in
front of him. His job was to provide assistance, under any circumstance.
London paramedic Ash Gilfoy sprang to his feet after he
made sure his partner attended to their patient on the ground. They had already
ascertained the ABCDs of the situation—Airway, Breathing, Circulation,
Disability—and determined the patient was non-time critical.
What was about to happen was time-sensitive though. ...'
I'd love to hear your thoughts! Will be making the rounds on the list as my crappy connection allows me, and I look forward to checking superb words from the likes of Siobhan Muir, Jessica E. Subject, Lorraine Paton, Sandra Bunino, Christine Warner, and Jennifer Lowery, among many others.
Hope you're having a brighter Sunday than I am, peeps!
From Mauritius with love,
Zee

Great opening Zee, heroishness already evident!
I'm so happy for you! As one of those trusted CP's, I enjoyed reading this book! Loved Ash too! Ladies, your gonna love him!
Oh yeah, it's funny that I opened your blog and found Josh Holloway on the screen. I'm watching season 2 of LOST right now. Even stranded on an island, that man is good to look at!
You always leave us hanging right at the most exciting moment. ;) Great six. This sounds like a great read, too, Zee! And you're so not the only one geeing for the return of Game of Thrones. I just can't wait!
Definitely hero qualities. Assertiveness and attitude! Very good six!
Thanks Angela! He's a hero indeed :)
Hey MJ
Yup, you were one of those trusted CPs, and Josh Holloway, girl... Oh my! He made stranded on an island looks positively delicious! :) XOXO
LOL - thanks, JM. :) And GoT, I cannot wait!!! Too bad there's no Sean Bean in this one, but I'll console myself with Nikolaj Coster-Waldau *grin*
Thanks Wildcat's Wife! :)
Ooooh. Love that he's all heroic and noble already, and well, picturing Josh Holloway sure doesn't hurt his appeal either ;)
Crisis and the threat of bad things happening--definitely gets this reader's attention.
Lol Tatiana! Nope, that doesn't hurt his appeal at all *wink* :)
Glad if it does, E.P. :)
Love this! It absolutely rocks. Great beginning and I think I'm stuck on Ash already (er, imagining him as JH didn't hurt either, lol).
Love his name - suits him - and you got the abcd right too - yes one does learn about his character right from the get go - looking forward to more
Great intro, straight into a scene that we are all interested in! Well done!
Glad you liked it, Maeclair! Lol, I got stuck on Ash too :)
Okay, dangit, now I want to read it! Great opening, Zee.
Thanks for the mention, m'dear. :)
Thanks Sue! His full name is Ashford, in fact, shortened to Ash, also because his hair is ash-blond.
Re: the ABCD - I shaped a lot of this opening scene with some very helpful London paramedics and ambulance workers. Glad to know I got it right. :) xoxo
Thanks Gemma! *BIG Grin*
Lol Siobhan - I did my job then, if you got hooked :)
Most welcome for the mention, sweetie! XOXO
Great opening, Zee.
Very intriguing!
Yep, it grabbed me. Well done!
Nice urgency to the opening. Great six!
Any story set in London about a hero with Josh Holloway's face is a sure fire winner. :)
first of all thanks for your comment on mine - very helpful - as usual secondly - was speaking to another writier today who takes research seriously - as in go out and talk to the people - which you apparently did - excellent!
Ooooohhh! I really really like this!
Interesting six. I'm intrigued. Nice setting and a good draw.
Love him!! Great six...
Nice tension! It's an intriguing opening scene.
Cara, so sorry I didn't reply you earlier. Guess your comment came through when I was answering the ones before it, and I didn't see it right away. Thanks for your lovely words! XOXO
Thanks Carly!! :)
Glad it worked as a hook, Karysa :)
Thanks Babette! :)
Lol Elin! Much of the story is set in London, but there's also big parts that take place in Nice & Arles in France, Las Vegas, Prague, and Hastings and London in England :)
Sue, I definitely believe in research!
While reading a book once that was set in supposedly-modern Madagascar, I kept alternately LOL-ing or cursing, because the author portrayed it as a backward African village (big name author too, btw!). I never finished that book, and I swore to myself I'd never, consciously, let any reader down by not not doing my research properly for any book!
The people from that ambulanceLondon forum were extremely helpful, and they even looked over a scene where I used limb trauma protocol to make sure I got it right.
Lol Carrie! :)
Thanks Kate! :)
Sara, he is totally loveable! :) xoxo
Thank you, Tonya! :)
Wonderful opening six, Zee. You totally me hanging and wanting more!
Thanks Sarah!! XOXO
