This Sunday, I'm back home and fending off a pack of hysterical hyenas with no swimming pool in sight to distract them from their super-loud gaming... Oh well, life could be worse, innit? Thank goodness for the lovely pick-me-up that is Six Sentence Sunday. To everyone who came over last week, even though I didn't get a chance to return the favour until way later in the week, thank you! Your dropping over here was much, much appreciated. :)
Okay, onwards and upwards. I'm still in the mansion's yard with sexy doctor Jamie and uptight forensic pathologist Margo, with a sulking tween Emma colouring the encounter. Or is she...? Because suddenly, something else, something way hotter and 'disturbing', is brewing between the two adults... Jamie appears to already be a goner for the icy blonde - what about her though?
Margo's never been caught being incompetent, yet this is exactly how she believes Jamie has seen her in her dealings with her headstrong daughter. On one hand, there's Emma who's been throwing daggers with her eyes and countenance since the morning; on the other, there's handsome Jamie who brings out all sorts of uncalled-for feelings inside her. What's a woman to do?
'...
Margo bit her lip and chewed on the soft skin, until she realized what she was doing and stopped - she'd abandoned that nervous tic long ago; at seventeen, to be precise, when Harry Milburn had waltzed into her world and made her yearn to be the kind of girly girl he obviously favoured. Biting lips meant eating the lipstick she'd started to wear, to be noticed by the dashing twenty-three-year old English and drama student at Cambridge.
Not the time to think of Harry.
Especially when Jamie stood just a few feet away.
Turning to him, she raked her gaze over his tall frame. Dressed today in the torn jeans, and a red and black plaid shirt, his big body radiated solidity and quiet strength; gentleness, too. ...'
Don't forget to check out the rest of the SSS posse - surefire stops for me will be Siobhan Muir, Jessica E. Subject, JC Martin, Angela Quarles, Patricia Green, Nicola Marsh, Liia Ann White, Sarah Grimm, Cera duBois, Sherry Gloag... among many others :)
Hope you're all having a lovely weekend!
From Mauritius with love,
Zee

Lovin' it, Zee! :)
No, definitely don't think of Harry. Love this story! :)
And thanks for the shout out!
Thanks Nikki! :)
Lol Jess - Harry shouldn't be mentioned, innit?
Most welcome about the shoutout, girlie! xoxo
Great snippet, you have me in the palm of your hand.
Mmm, a big male body in a red and black plaid shirt sounds especially yummy.
Who knew standing in the yard of a mansion could be complex? Nice work!
Great six. Yes definitely forget about Harry when the gorgeous Jamie is right there in front of her!
Great way to get in a little backstory without slowing it down! Great 6 Zee, and thanks for the shoutout at the bottom, that's my first one :D
Wonderfully vivid description, both of her emotions and the scene. Great job, as usual Zee.
Love that first paragraph - yeah iit is back story - I'm always learning from you :D
Forget Harry! I'm lovin' Jamie! :) Nice Six, Zee
very well done, can't wait to read more.
Awww, Alix, thank you! :) xoxo
Lol Claire! I came across a pic of Jared Padalecki (who has been Jamie all along for me) in a red and black plaid shirt once and I knew I just had to have that image somewhere in the book :) Totally yummy indeed
I love the description of Jamie! He sounds down to earth!
Lol Jessica. Yep, it can definitely be, and Margo's not at the end of her tether where surprises are concerned in this very yard :)
Indeed, Paula - indeed! :)
Thanks Angela! And you're most welcome for the shoutout - love your sixes from the time travel :)
Thank you, Cate! xoxo
Lol Sue - yes, it is backstory. I try to weave it little by little throughout, and hope I manage to not info-dump at any point :) *hugs*
Thanks Ute! Jamie is totally 'lovable' indeed :)
Jamie is an anchor, Krystal! Definitely down to earth :)
Thanks Liz!
Sounds like he's the answer to many questions she has (and isn't willing to ask herself). Love that she's torn about several issues at once--it's realistic.
Great personal realization that she hadn't done the lip-biting thing in so long. Enjoyed your snippet, Zee!
He sounds so very appealing, especially from her perspective. Good writing, Zee!
Thanks JM - I wanted her to be realistic above all else, especially because of her profession :)
Thank you, Julia! I enjoyed being in her head, even if it was confuzzled half the time :)
Lol Patricia - he is totally delicious :)
If Jamie looks like *that* then it's definitely not the time to think about Harry. LOL.
I like how you weave the backstory into the scene. Really gets us to see her confidence issues
Nice description and detail. Enjoyed this.
The pacing is spot-on in this snippet, especially with the mini-flashback revealing a little more about the character. Nicely written six.
Ah, she SO doesn't stand a chance! Love it, Zee!
"Quiet strength"—two of my favorite traits in a hero! Great six, Zee!
Great six!!!! He sounds like a highly attractive man! Mmm... :)
He sounds sweet and sexy! I'm intrigued!
Lol Empi! Yes, he looks like 'that'! :) Glad you enjoyed the backstory tidbit - I try not to dump any info in, and happy if that's the case
Thank you Cara! :)
Thanks Cherie! Glad many of you think it flows well :) xoxo
Lol Sarah - nope, she doesn't stand a chance at all! :)
Jennifer, those are my favourite traits in a hero too, in a man basically. That's what attracted me to my husband actually *grin*
relatedreality - he is absolutely divine! :)
Thanks DeAnna. Jamie is a total darling in there :)
Oh yeah, WHY is she thinking of Harry? ;) Thank you for the mention and I'm enjoying these snippets, Zee. :)
Thanks for your comment on my SSS, hon! Just returning the favour :)
Lol Siobhan! That's what your first love will do to you - always popping up at the most inoprtune of times :) *hugs*
Most welcome, Lucy darlin! :) XOXO
