Six Sentence Sunday - Walking The Edge: Snippet #15

Hey beautiful people!

It's another bright, sunny Sunday here in Mauritius. Spring is definitely here, finally! Yes, time is running way fast - I have no clue where this past week went, and wham! - it's time for exciting SSS excerpts again.

Without further ado (and me waxing lyrical because I think the sun is getting to  what's left of my brain!), let's head to Marseille and that scene on the darkened doorstep of police commissaire Gerard's house. We're still in the early chapters of Walking The Edge, and things start to take a turn for the worst - or for the better maybe, when it appears nothing is as it seems...

Last week, Gerard was on his knees, brought down by a boot-kick in the stomach and a fist slam to the temple. His assailant was bringing out a gun...

"...
Time stood still while he tried to breathe and remain conscious.

And then something happened so quickly he had trouble grasping it; the guy howled and went down, his free hand clutching his neck as Gerard caught sight of a cherry-red flash.

The thug lifted and aimed his gun - another red flash haloed the first; two shots rang, and the thug slumped.

Gerard moved his gaze to where the flashes had appeared, and he saw his Sig in the hands of the one who'd saved him.

Legs braced, back straight, she held the gun in both hands, the left cupping the right, with wisps of smoke gently drifting from the barrel.

He blinked when he focused on her face. ..."

Catch more SSS snippets here - I guarantee there are some awesome reads, and some awesome people behind them!

From Mauritius with love,

Zee

Now that's what I'm talkin' bout! She's no damsel in distress. Love the smoking gun. Great six!

Zee Monodee said...

Lol Cate! More next week, promise! (I know, evil *wicked laugh*) *grin*

Zee Monodee said...

Oh yeah, Sarah - a woman will always save the day! :)

Zee Monodee said...

J.C., more to come next week. Let's just say, he is surprised. :)

Zee Monodee said...

Thanks Jennifer! I always think of the book's cover when I read this scene

Zee Monodee said...

Lol Cherie - that's right, she is no damsel in distress needing to be saved. Gerard's in for a wakeup call with her :)

Guilie Castillo said...

Very nice six... And so she saved him and he's indebted to her. What a way to meet -- if they are meeting. Will look forward to more!

Thanks for the visit to my blog, Zee. I'm far, far away from Mauritius, unfortunately. I'm in Curacao, in the Caribbean. But it also used to be a Dutch colony, so perhaps the similarities stem from that? I've noticed other islands in this part of the world aren't the melting-pot that ours are. Interesting thought...

Ooh, makes it seem that he knows her.

Kharisma Rhayne said...

wonderful 6 :)

Zee Monodee said...

Hey Guilie

Glad to see you over here! Lol, these two have met in the previous scene - my past SSS followed that, but this is still a shocker to him as nothing is as he thought it was. :)

I've heard of Curacao - beautiful place! When I look a images and footage of Caribbean islands, I'm amazed how much they resemble Mauritius - like in Rihanna's video Man Down. The place looks exactly like the western coast here. And isn't it a wonderful privilege to live in such melting pots? The staggering amount and variety of the culture - takes one experiencing it to know what it feels like, innit? We used to be a Dutch colony too, yeah. :)

Glad to have met you! :) xoxo

Zee Monodee said...

Lol, writeidea! Yep, he knows her, all right, yet he is still in for a mighty surprise. :)

Zee Monodee said...

Thanks Siobhan! :)

Zee Monodee said...

Thank you Tory!

Zee Monodee said...

Glad you liked it, Kacey! Oh yeah, she's one hell of a heroine, lol. :)

Zee Monodee said...

Lol Lex - saved by a woman! The shame for him, right? :)

Zee Monodee said...

Yup yup, Gem! This is the first of a series of stunners in this book, if I may say so. Like I mentioned, this is where they start to find out that nothing is as it appears to be :)

Zee Monodee said...

Thanks Jalisa! Yes, she's a good shot and one hell of a woman - and that surprised both Gerard and her right there. FYI, she has amnesia, and dreamt of Gerard as her lover in the past. But he didn't recognise her when she came up to him, and thought she was a lure sent by the criminals he is pursuing to bait him. :)

Zee Monodee said...

Lol Lexcade! She rocks, innit? More on him figuring out who she is next week. :)

Zee Monodee said...

Lol Stella! I'll take that as a compliment since I wanted to get readers hooked *evil laugh!* :)

Zee Monodee said...

Thanks Xakara! Surprise, surprise, innit? :)

Zee Monodee said...

Lol Suzie, I like that too. She surprised everyone, including herself, here. :)

Zee Monodee said...

Yup Lindsay! She's a darn good shot, and both are wondering how and where she comes from! Answers are supposed to come now, but will they find answers, or more questions? :)

Zee Monodee said...

Sherry, she's been following him in the shadows after the previous encounter (past SSS) in the darkened alley beside the bistro. :)

Zee Monodee said...

Thank you Jay! :)

Zee Monodee said...

Glad you liked it, Stacey! :)

Zee Monodee said...

Thanks Piper! Amelia rocks. :)

Zee Monodee said...

Thank you Kharisma!

D Carney said...

The description of her is very nicely done! Nice six!

Zee Monodee said...

Lol, 100th Monkey - he is! What just happened is totally, completely, unexpected (as will be shown in next week's six, hopefully) :)

Zee Monodee said...

Thanks Dee! :)

Wow! Great action scene that leaves us with a bad-ass woman to the rescue. All the important food groups are represented. A win.
